Deluxe or Rustic Cabin: Which One Fits Your Trip

Not everyone who stops at Fort Smith-Alma RV Park is towing something. Some people want the pond and the quiet and a real bed without hitching anything to a truck. The park has two kinds of cabins for that, and they're different enough that picking the right one is worth a few minutes of thought. Here's what each includes, based on what the park lists, so you can match a cabin to the trip you're actually taking.

What the deluxe cabin gives you

The deluxe cabins are the more home-like option. The park lists these things for them:

  • A queen bed
  • A couch with a TV
  • Full kitchen essentials
  • A microwave and a refrigerator
  • Heating and air conditioning through minisplits
  • A living area

Read that list as a statement about how you'll spend your time. A couch with a TV and a living area means a rainy afternoon is comfortable instead of cramped. Kitchen essentials, a fridge and a microwave mean you can buy groceries at Harps or Walmart, both within two miles according to the park, and cook your own meals rather than eating out every night. If you're staying several days, that adds up to a more settled kind of trip.

What the rustic cabin gives you

The rustic cabins are simpler, and plenty of people prefer that. The park lists:

  • Heating and air conditioning
  • A full bed and bunk beds
  • A microwave and a refrigerator
  • A front porch with a fire pit

The bunk beds are the clue. This cabin sleeps a group in a way the deluxe layout, built around a queen bed and a couch, doesn't obviously do. For a family with kids, the full bed plus bunks is a natural fit. The front porch with its own fire pit is the other selling point: you sit outside in the evening, close to the cabin door, with the fire going. There's no kitchen listed here beyond the microwave and fridge, so plan on simple meals or cook on the grill.

A few honest ways to choose

If you're traveling as a couple and want the trip to feel like a small vacation rental, start with the deluxe cabin. The queen bed, the living area and the kitchen essentials are built for that. If you're bringing children, friends or a bigger group and plan to spend most of your time outside, look at the rustic cabin first. You have beds for more people and a fire pit within a few steps of the door.

If you can't decide, ask a practical question: how much of this trip will you spend inside the cabin? Long indoor hours, bad weather, remote work or cooking tilt toward deluxe. Short indoor hours, kids who'd rather be at the pond or the playground, and evenings by the fire tilt toward rustic.

Things both cabins share

Both types have heat and air, a microwave and a fridge, and both are on the same 23-acre property, which means the same pond, the same playground and the same general store. The store sells drinks, snacks, ice cream, ice and bundles of wood, so a forgotten item doesn't send you off the property. The park is also pet friendly and family friendly, though it's smart to ask the office about pets in the cabins specifically before you book, since the rules for a cabin can differ from those for an RV site.

The saltwater pool is seasonal, so don't plan a trip around swimming without checking whether it's open when you're there. One Google reviewer found it closed during his stay. A call to the office before you go clears that up.

Rates and booking

Cabin rates aren't listed on the park's site, and we won't guess at them here. They're shown on the Campspot booking page for the park, where you can also check which dates are open. That's the place to compare the two cabin types side by side for your dates. If you'd rather talk it through, call the office at (479) 632-2704. Hours are Monday through Saturday, 9 AM to 6 PM, and Sunday, 1 to 6 PM.

One last tip: weekends and holidays tend to fill up at most parks, and a small cabin count means fewer choices. If you've got your dates, check availability early. Deluxe or rustic, you're getting heat and air, a fridge and a roof, with a pond a short walk away. Pick the one that matches the way you like to spend an evening, and the trip mostly takes care of itself.
